Dr. Akshay Desai is a physician executive and pharmaceutical leader with over 13 years of experience spanning Medical Affairs, Scientific Leadership, Medical Strategy, Evidence Generation, Medical Governance, Launch Excellence, and Stakeholder Engagement across global and regional healthcare organizations.
Currently serving as Director, Medical Affairs at Ferring India, he leads a high-performing medical team and collaborates extensively with cross-functional, regional, and global stakeholders to ensure the delivery of patient-centric, evidence-based healthcare solutions supporting Ferring growth ambitions while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity and compliance.
Prior to joining Ferring, Dr. Desai held leadership positions at Pfizer, including Senior Manager, Global Medical Affairs, where he led global scientific learning initiatives across cardiology, rheumatology, and rare disease portfolios. Throughout his career with Pfizer, Novartis, Abbott, and Ranbaxy, he has played pivotal roles in therapy area strategy, product lifecycle management, launch preparedness, evidence generation, medical education, and external stakeholder engagement. His experience spans both local and global roles, enabling him to successfully navigate complex healthcare environments and drive impactful scientific and business outcomes.
He is passionate about advancing patient care through medical innovation, real-world evidence generation, scientific exchange, and the translation of emerging science into clinical practice.
Dr. Akshay holds an MD in Pharmacology from Seth G.S. Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, & has completed his MBBS from Topiwala National Medical College & B.Y.L. Nair Hospital, Mumbai. He holds a Diploma in Business Management from the Welingkar Institute of Management, Mumbai & is also a Certified Digital Health Professional accredited by the Indian Institute of Management, Raipur.
